Biography

Mary Elizabeth Smith, 73, of Moberly passed away Saturday November 4, 2017 at Moberly Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mary was born in Higbee, MO on May 3, 1944 to James South and Martha Cook South.  She was a lifelong resident of the Moberly area.  She married Carl Elmer Cunningham in 1963.  She later married Jerry Smith in 1977 and they spent many wonderful years together.  Several will remember her for her many years as a cook for Moberly Area Community College.  Mary enjoyed sewing, making blankets, pillows, dolls and even clothes for her granddaughter.  She like following Greyhound basketball, was a Nascar enthusiast and big Carl Edwards fan.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry and brother, Melvin Fields.

Survivors include her children, Tim (Sharon) Cunningham and Troy (Edith) Cunningham all of Moberly; grandchildren, Kayla Cunningham of KS, Bryson Howard of TN, Tyler Cunningham of Moberly, James Foote of St. Louis, Christie Ford, Bryan Ford and Charity Harper all of Moberly and Jacob Roberts of Cape Girardeau; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Clarence South of Troy, MO, Bill South of Mexico, MO, Harold (Heather) South of Sedalia, MO and John (Joyce) Burns of Centralia, MO; extended family and close friends.

Services celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
