Keith Sandall Newman passed from this earthly life on September 5, 2016, at Family Health and Rehabilitation Clinic in Wichita, Kansas.

A funeral service will be Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Brookfield with Pastor Mandy Wiedeman officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening.

Keith, son of Allen M. and Lillian A. (Hubbard) Newman, was born April 7, 1922, in Brookfield. On October 21, 1951, he married Zelma Newman, who preceded him in death in July 2013.

He was a graduate of Brookfield High School in Brookfield. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps while in high school. In 1942 he joined the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in California, Nebraska, Florida, North Carolina, and Michigan before being sent to Iwo Jima in the Pacific as soon as the airstrip was completed. He spent a few months in the Philippines following the end of hostilities before returning home in the fall of 1946. He began working for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad, which later was called the Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked as a Brakeman and later Conductor before retiring in1989.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Brookfield. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Retired Trainmen, VFW, and a former member of the Tanglefoot Square Dance Club. In his younger days, he enjoyed motorcycles, traveling and camping with the family. Following retirement, he and Zelma spent winters in the Rio Grande valley enjoying the dancing and the weather. Recently, he has split his time between Brookfield and Wichita. While in Brookfield he enjoyed eating breakfast with his old buddies at the local McDonald’s or the Cattlemen’s Restaurant, as well as being a fan of the Kansas City Royals and Missouri Tigers sports teams

Survivors include two children, Dennis Newman and wife, Chris of Shawnee, Kansas and Lynne Edgar and husband, Steve of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Joshua Newman and wife, Aubrey of Lenexa, Kansas, Ashley Love and husband, Travis of Phoenix, Arizona, and Matthew Newman and wife, Krista of Lenexa, Kansas and Charley Edgar and Maizey Edgar both of Wichita, Kansas: and a great-grandson Foster Scott Newman of Lenexa, Kansas; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Francis Newman and wife, Wilma, Kenneth Newman and wife, Juanita and Raymond Newman: and three sisters, Virginia Doss and husband, Jim, Helen Taylor, and Mary Jane Newman.
