Darrel Ray Turner Obituary

Darrel Turner, age 74, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Darrel was born on August 11, 1949 in Quincy, IL, the son of Charles and Eunice (Elwood) Turner. Darrel was united in marriage to Sherrill Elaine Grimsley on December 28, 1973. She survives.

Survivors also include his three children, Erin Maubach and husband Tom of Shelbina, MO, Andy Turner and wife Tiffany of Moberly, MO, and Mary Greenwood of Shelbina, MO; six grandchildren, Abby and Kelsie Haggard, Quintin and Courtney Maubach, and Emily and Gracie Greenwood; two brothers, Charles Turner of CA and David Turner of Prior Lake, MN; two sisters, Donna Miles of Bethel, MO, and Paulette Underwood of Norman, OK.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronnie Turner and an infant brother; step mother, Fern Turner; mother-in-law, Bernice Grimsley; two brothers-in-law, Weldon Stokes and Michael Grimsley; and sister-in-law, Christa Grimsley.

Darrel graduated in 1967 from North Shelby High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He had a hog farm for many years. Darrel liked to stay busy cutting fire wood, clearing brush, mowing his yard, and tinkering with his tractors. Most of all, Darrel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 2 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Altar Society.
