NFIB: Next Weekend’s Sales Tax Holiday a Chance to Support Local Businesses

JEFFERSON CITY (July 28, 2022) -- NFIB State Director Brad Jones says Missouri’s upcoming sales tax holiday on clothes, computers, and school supplies is a chance for people to support small businesses rocked by the series of economic setbacks that began with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This year’s back-to-school tax holiday is Aug. 5-7.

“We believe it’s important for people to support small businesses year-round, but it’s especially important right now,” Jones said. “Our small businesses have had a rough couple of years, but they’ve survived a pandemic and continued to provide the things their customers need despite inflation, higher gas prices, and breaks in the supply chain.”

Small business owners surveyed for NFIB’s latest Small Business Economic Trends report ranked inflation as the No. 1 issue affecting their business, followed by quality of labor.

“Chain stores like to steal the spotlight, but the truth is that small business is what drives Missouri’s economy, and shopping small during this year’s tax holiday is a great way to get the things you need while ensuring these independent and family-owned businesses can continue to serve their communities throughout the year,” Jones said.
