July 30, 2019

The Family Literacy Center and the North Missouri Adult Education program honored thirty-four graduates at their High School Equivalency Commencement Ceremony held at the Methodist Church on Thursday, July 18th. Over 200 people were in attendance for the graduates receiving their diplomas from the eight North Missouri Adult Education sites: Macon, Brookfield, Chillicothe, Shelbina, Kirksville, Monroe City, LaBelle, and Hannibal.

The students entered into the multipurpose room in a procession to the music, “Pomp and Circumstance”. This was followed by an introduction by Lydia McClellan, AEL director where she told the graduates she was very proud of their accomplishments in obtaining their HiSET. Jan Barton then blessed the audience with an opening prayer, followed by a song sung by Olivia Coon. Certificates were handed out to each of the students by their respective teachers, special awards were given by Lydia McClellan to selected graduates, then Olivia Coon finished the celebration with another song.

A cake and punch reception immediately followed the ceremony for the graduates and their families.

The Family Literacy Center would like to thank the following businesses for their donations to make our graduation possible: Horizon Credit Union, Prenger Foods, and C & R Market. Also, the people who graciously donate their time: Alan Spencer (sound system), Olivia Coon (singer), and Rylee Berti (photographer), who make the graduation ceremony so special.
