Virgil “Virgie” Lee Engle, age 90, of Shelbyville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the Clarence Care Center in Clarence, Missouri.

Virgie was born on December 16, 1928, the daughter of Virgil Earl and Opal Maze (McCanon) Lindsey. She was united in marriage to Harry Eugene (Gene) Engle on November 11, 1947 in Macon, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1993.

Virgie lived in Shelbyville, Missouri throughout most her life. She was a member of the Shelbyville Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and the GFWC. Virgie was active in her community. She organized Fourth of July and Old Settler activities, played organ and piano at church, and organized music programs to honor veterans. Additionally, she enjoyed writing many poems.

She is survived by her two children, Bonnie Jean Moore(Don) of Conroe, Texas and Rick Engle(Jolene) of Shelbyville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Shawn Allison Heimann (Brent) of Ingram, Texas, Don Sterling Moore II(Monica) of Spring, Texas, and Gene Dodd(Pam) of Buffalo, Oklahoma; 10 great grandchildren and one brother, Max Waite(Deanie) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters and 2 brothers; and one special friend, Richard "Grady" Daniels.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 8, 2019, from 9 am to 11 am at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Missouri. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 8, 2019, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Shelby Memorial Cemetery in Shelbyville, Missouri following the service.
