Anna Margaret Piepenburg September 24, 1930 - October 12, 2018

Anna Margaret Piepenburg, a longtime resident of andschoolteacher in Monroe and Shelby Counties, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2018.

Anna was born September 24, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Myra Morgan of Holliday, Missouri. She was one of four children; her sister Minnie Riede of Climax springs, Missouri, survives. She attended Paris High School and Kirksville State Teacher College, now Truman University. Her lifelong ambition was to teach school. She started her teaching career at Callis School in Monroe County in 1948 with only one summer of college.

She and Harry R. (Bob) Glahn were married on May 28, 1949. She then taught two terms at Red Star School in Shelly County and two terms at Callis School in Adair County.Her and Bob’s marriage ended in divorce. In 1990, and she later married Harold Piepenburg of Mesquite, Texas, in 2007, who preceded her in death.

To Bob and Anna were born two sons, Robert Gale and Gary Lee. After 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, the family moved to Falls Church, Virginia, in 1958, where Bob became employed by the Weather Bureau (now the National Weather Service) and Anna taught in the Fairfax County school system. Anna’s family was foremost in her life, and she was an outstanding homemaker, mother, and wife. The family enjoyed traveling, camping, and hiking in the West, a favorite spot being near Dubois, Wyoming.

Anna continued her education and was graduated from George Washington University in 1965. She was a lover of flowers, and her garden won many prizes from the Falls Church Garden Club.

Her strong Christian beliefs guided her throughout her life. Her Christian faith also led both her sons to become missionaries to countries in Africa.

Following her retirement from teaching in 1980, Anna moved to Shelbina, Missouri, in 1989 to care for her mother, and in 2005, she moved to Mesquite, Texas, to be near her son Gary and his wife Sandra. She has been in health care facilities in Mesquite for several years.

A memorial service was held at Lake Ridge Bible Church in Mesquite, on October 15. Graveside services will be in Paris, Missouri, on October 17 at 11:00 a.m.; a luncheon will be hosted by the First Baptist Church in Shelbina following the service for family and friends.

She is survived by Robert and his wife Tannie of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Gary and his wife Sandra of Mesquite, Texas; her sister Minnie and husband Dale of Climax Springs, Missouri; grandchildren Robert Daniel and wife Almaz of AddisAbaba; Katherine and husband Dan of Williamsburg, Virginia; Alisha of Annandale, Virginia, Keenan of Falls Church, Virginia; Alexandra of Mesquite; and several great grandchildren.
