Phyllis Jean Gordon August 24, 1936 - September 27, 2018

Phyllis Jean Gordon, age 82, passed away September 27, 2018 peacefully at her home in Shelbyville, Missouri surrounded by her family.
She was born August 24, 1936 in Edina, Missouri to Patrick Leo and Viola (Stutsman) Rourke. She married Harold (Shorty) Gordon on January 3, 1954 in Locust Hill. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1993.
Phyllis is survived by four children: Deborah (Bill) Thrasher of Shelbyville, Carla Oliver of Roseville, Illinois, Randall (Jennifer) Gordon of Columbia, Missouri, and Beverly (Ernie) Maddex of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Mark (Carrie) Thrasher of Wildwood, Missouri, Emily (Grant) Van Weerdhuizen of Portland, Oregon, Alex Thrasher of Richmond, Missouri, Rebekah (Todd) Etnier of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Ryan (Hilary) Oliver of Bettendorf, Iowa, Nicholas (Dana) Maddex of Shelbville, Kaitlyn Maddex of Columbia, Missouri, Bailey (Chris) Hendren of Jacksonville, Missouri, and Dylan, Brendan, and Ethan Gordon of Columbia, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Brecken Thrasher, Connell Etnier, Pax Oliver, Sutton Hendren, and Mila Van Weerdhuizen.
Other survivors include a sister, Velva Steele; brothers, Ron (Pam) Rourke, Glennon (Jane) Parish, and Gary Parish; sisters-in-law, Kay Parish, Doris Copenhaver, and Marjorie Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; father; mother and step-father, Alva Parish; four brothers, Fred Rourke, Donnie Rourke, David Parish, and Stephen Parish; two sisters, Carroll Hoffman and Melissa McGlothin; and one nephew, Brian Parish.
Phyllis operated Gordon’s Café in Leonard, Missouri for 21 years. She loved serving her many customers. After moving to Shelbyville, she attended the Shelbyville Christian Church. She enjoyed flowers, bird-watching, crocheting, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and visiting with friends and neighbors. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as being spunky, determined, and a hard worker.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Leonard Cemetery in Leonard, Missouri following the service. Memorials may be made to the Leonard Cemetery, Leonard Community Building, GiGi’s Playhouse-Quad Cities, and Donor’s Choice.
