Letter to the Editor from Lentner Resident and Shelby County R-lV Counselor, Michele Collins

August 06, 2018

Dear editor,

As the vote is almost upon us, I implore my friends from Macon and Shelby County who still may be undecided to consider the following...

1. If South Shelby was so educationally inadequate wouldn’t DESE have stepped in by now?

2. Is this about the multitude of benefits Macon has to offer or is it actually about not wanting to pay the tax that was passed by the county to build a new South Shelby Elementary?

3. Bigger doesn’t always mean better it’s just bigger.

4. Did you realize that both SHELBINA AND CLARENCE will close their Elementary’s ?

5. Who is actually proposing redistricting, are they the majority of families with school age children from Clarence?

6. This is unknown waters for both districts costly litigation seems inevitable for both districts if the proposition would pass. Are you ready for your district to shell out money for litigation that your district was dragged into?

7. Can those that wish to attend Macon pay tuition and go to Macon, absolutely.

8. Macon will pay for South Shelby students grades 7 through 12 to attend South Shelby in a one time election or so the resolution states. What about a household with younger and older children… nightmare!

9. People talk of more opportunities they would have had at Macon, did they actually take the opportunities they did have at South?

10. If this was YOUR district would you want your child to be forced to attend another school because someone took YOUR choice away?

Please vote NO!

Michele Collins
