Kathy Doolin, 59, of rural Lucerne, MO, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 28, 2018. She had been battling cancer for seven months.

Kathy Jo Doolin was born in Milan, MO, on March 21, 1959, the daughter of Leonard Wayne and Verla (Wattenbarger) Doolin, who preceded her in death. She was reared in the Lucerne area and graduated from Newtown-Harris High School in 1977. She then attended Platt Business College in St. Joseph, MO. Kathy began work at KTVO-TV in Kirksville, MO, in 1979, and worked until 2007 as a receptionist/administrative assistant, National and Regional sales assistant and Assistant to General Sales Manager/Sales Coordinator. She lived in Kirksville during this time and then returned to the farm in Lucerne in 2000 to help care for her ailing mother. Kathy worked at Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO, beginning in 2009, and worked in billing, administration, inventory and admissions.

Kathy was a person with a quiet, reserved and very pleasant personality. She was a voracious reader and liked nearly all kinds of books, often visiting the Kirksville Library and Hastings Book Store. She enjoyed trips with friends and loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews, to whom she was like a second mother and grandmother. Kathy was baptized at the Newtown Christian Church.

Kathy is survived by her brother, Danny Doolin, of Lucerne, MO; and her sister, Linda Smith of Sturgeon, MO. She is also survived by nephew Ricky (Cinnamon) Smith, and niece Amanda (Chad) Nida. Kathy’s great nieces and nephews are Xier Smith, with whom she had a mother-son like relationship, Aura Smith, Cameron and Claudia Seekings, Logan, Warren, Angela, and Jasper Nida.

The family wishes to express deep thanks and appreciation to all who sponsored benefits and fund raisers to assist in Kathy’s medical expenses.

Kathy’s wishes were to be cremated. Private services for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565, to assist with funeral expenses.
