$300,000 Headed to Macon School District—McCaskill Announces

July 17, 2018

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced today that the Macon Electric Cooperative received a $300,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program to install a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system for the Macon R-1 School District—reducing the district’s energy costs and helping save 200 jobs.

“This is great news for the Macon School District, its faculty, staff and students who will benefit from this investment,” McCaskill said. “Ensuring our rural schools are funded and up-to-date is essential—Missouri students thrive when given the chance to focus on their education in a safe and supportive environment.”

McCaskill, a longtime supporter of rural schools and communities, joined a bipartisan effort in December to restore Secure Rural Schools funding for communities surrounding Mark Twain National Forest. The program expired in 2015, and despite efforts from McCaskill and a bipartisan, bicameral group of colleagues, the Trump administration included no funding for the program in its budget.
