Lester Lee McElroy, 94 of rural Queen City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The son of Ollie and Orma (Broadwell) McElroy, he was born on January 21, 1924 in Bible Grove, Missouri. Lester was a high school graduate and attended Trade School in Nashville, Tennessee. On December 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Lewis and to this union seven children were born, Shirley, Dennis, Donnie, Karen, David, Robert and Kenny.

Survivors include his children, Shirley Searl of Knoxville, Tennessee, Dennis McElroy of Clearwater, Florida, Donnie McElroy and wife, Nancy of Queen City, Missouri, Karen Carolan and husband, Jerry of Greentop, Missouri, David McElroy of Roseville, Illinois, Robert McElroy of Kirksville, Missouri and Kenny McElroy and wife, Lisa of Colona, Illinois; 15 grandchildren; 22 1/2 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Hazel Flack of Bowen, Illinois, Ed McElroy and wife, Dorothy of Queen City, Missouri and Gene McElroy of Excello, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; 2 sisters-in-law, Deloris McElroy of Queen City, Missouri and Helen McElroy of Carthage, Illinois, other family members; many many friends and one special friend.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Ashley McElroy; one daughter-in-law, Margarete McElroy; six siblings, Bobby Wayne McElroy, Helen Klein and husband, Marvin, Oscar McElroy, Ralph McElroy and wife, Diane, Wilma Lasher and husband, Jim and Marvin McElroy and wife, Edna; one brother-in-law, Gerald Flack; one sister-in-law, Betty McElroy and 3 special friends.

Lester was a member of the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri. He was inducted into the United States Navy on November 18, 1943 and received an honorable discharge on April 8, 1946. He came back to the Downing, Missouri area and began farming as a livestock and grain farmer. He also worked for the ASCS in Lancaster, Missouri for a number of years. Lester was a member of the VFW in Scotland and Adair Counties, Missouri, Moose Lodge in Kirksville, Missouri and the Odd Fellows.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 20108 at 2:00 p.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, Missouri with Larry Smith, Pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music will be special CD selections of “Amazing Grace” and “Tennessee Waltz”. Pallbearers will be James Hurley, Joey Hurley, Mark Paris, Gail Farley, Doug Ruth and Bob Gliedt. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Downing Cemetery or to the Scotland County VFW Post 4958. Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery in Downing, Missouri.
