UPDATE: Macon to host State Senate Forum - O’Laughlin, Redmon, Shumake, Walker, and Stephens to participate

June 13, 2018

It is with great excitement that we at the Home Press announce to our subscribers and other citizens within in the Macon area that on July 12, the candidates running for Missouri 18th State Senate District, will convene at the Macon Middle School for a public forum. Those candidates are: Republican Representatives Craig Redmon, Lindell Shumake, Nate Walker, and Businesswoman Cindy O’Laughlin. Democrat Crystal Stephens will also be participating. All candidates accepted an invitation within the past several days. Senator Brian Munzlinger is terming out and all eyes are on who will be his replacement - voters will pick a Republican Nominee in the August election and then, the Republican Nominee will face the only Democrat in the race, Crystal Stephens, in the November Election. The Home Press will be the sponsor of the event with Ben Nelson as of now, being the moderator.

The Macon Home Press understands that the forum is the night of the Swine Show at the Macon County Fair, however, the date is the best we could do as well as the facility. Seating is expected to expand out onto the court floor which will increase the capacity of possible seating. The forum is scheduled with a start time of 6:30 P.M. and is expected to last an hour to an hour and a half. All candidates have agreed upon the same sheet of rules. The public will be allowed to ask questions, during the last 15-20 minutes of the forum. However, in the near future there will be an article that will specifically talk about how and what you will need to do, to participate in the open portion of the forum. For those that can’t make it in person, we also plan on having the forum LIVE on the internet (Facebook). As of now, Macon is the second sight of a forum with Palmyra hosting one on June 14th. The public is highly encouraged to attend as there will be a wide range of questions covering all major issues in our State and Nation, sparking what will be an interesting discussion. The public is also encouraged to submit questions that they would like the moderator to ask. Please email questions to bcncvc@mail.missouri.edu

We will be making public the rules sheet within the next week. We hope everyone is having a great summer!
