QUESTIONS RELEASED ONE WEEK AHEAD OF CANDIDATE FORUM

by BENJAMIN C. NELSON

Like I promised to both Mayor Dale Bagley and James T. Holman, one week before the Candidate Forum, I would release two questions that I would like for them both to develop specific and strong answers for! For those that do not know, Mayor Dale Bagley and James T. Holman will be facing off in April for the Mayor's Seat here in Macon, Missouri. On February 26th, 2018 at exactly seven in the evening, Mayor Bagley and Businessman Talt Holman will sit down with Writer Benjamin Nelson for a Mayoral Candidate Forum at the Macon Middle School - they will answer questions that I have prepared. The forum will last roughly an hour. The Public is highly encouraged to attend! There will also be a LIVE broadcast of it on Facebook. Being one week before the debate, the questions that I released to both of them earlier tonight via email are:

1. Michael Nutter, the 98th Mayor of Philadelphia (Elected on November 6th 2007 and November 8th, 2011) said, "I didn't run for Mayor to be the caretaker of the status quo." In your eyes, what does this quote mean? What is the status quo here in Macon? Is it good or bad? How will you deal with it if elected/re-elected as Mayor of Macon in April?

2. In the Federalist Papers, James Madison talks about the powers of the federal and state/local government. "Powers of the federal government in the proposed Constitution are few and defined. Powers of the State (and implied local) government, are numerous and indefinite." He was likely pointing to a model of a more influential state and local government(s) that can directly impact a person's life - rather than a brute of a federal government. Please in detail, describe the powers/job description of the Mayor of Macon.

BOTH CANDIDATES RECEIVED THE SAME QUESTIONS AND WILL HAVE THREE MINUTES TO ANSWER THE FIRST QUESTION AND TWO MINUTES TO ANSWER THE SECOND QUESTION! All other questions and the time allotted to answer them will be stated/explained on the spot during the forum! We will flip a coin that night to determine who starts first (which will then alternate back an forth as the night moves on). If you have any questions about the forum or would like to submit questions that could be asked, please contact me at bcncvc@mail.missouri.edu or 660-591-3021
