Maxine Briggs (March 5, 1924 - May 21, 2017)

W. Maxine Briggs, age 93, of Brookfield, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at her home.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield with James Haley officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Brookfield. Visitation will begin Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening.

Wilma Maxine, daughter of Dewey Edwin and Lola Goldie (Brantner) Riddle, was born March 5, 1924, in Marion County. On September 19, 1944, she married Billie Gale Briggs who preceded her in death on January 11, 1993.

Maxine was a grandmother, a homemaker and a farmer. She worked at the Election Polls in St. Catherine for many years.

Survivors include two children, Wilma Eletta Haley of Brookfield and Billie Eugene Briggs and Patty Miller of St. Catherine; seven grandchildren, Stephen Haley and wife, Brenda, James Haley and wife, Gwen, Leta Beth Van Hal and husband, Chris, Jeffrey Haley and wife, Becky, Ellen Duckworth and husband, Brandon, Robert Briggs and wife, Jessica, and Kelli Lyford and husband, Jason; 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one sister, Geraldine Gooch; one brother-in-law, Bernie Briggs and wife, Pat; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

An infant sister, Delores; her sisters, Fern Peavler and Francis Cordray, a son-in-law, Bruce Haley, a brother-in-law, and his wife, Jerrol and Dorothy Briggs also preceded her in death.
