Bonnie Coleen (Grigsby) Hawkins, age 86 of LaPlata, MO, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, MO. Born September 20, 1930 near Elmer, MO, she was a daughter of John and Vanita (Miller) Grigsby. On January 14, 1947 in Macon, MO she married Eugene Hawkins.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ross of LaPlata, MO and son Wesley Hawkins and wife Michele of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandsons Sean Herron and wife Renee of LaPlata, MO and Jason Hawkins of Iowa City, IA, granddaughter Misti Herron and husband Sylvester of Columbia, MO; great-grandsons Taylor and Tanner Herron of LaPlata, great-granddaughters Bailey and Tara Mitchell of Columbia; three sisters-in-law, Betty Grigsby of Airway Heights, WA, Charlotte Grigsby of Ft. Madison, IA and Theta Belle Hawkins of Erin, TN; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, John Jr., Jim, Dean, Bill; one sister, Doris Hall; son-in-law, Rex Ross, three nephews and one niece.

Coleen attended Elmer High School and was a member of the LaPlata Christian Church. She lived all her life in the Elmer and LaPlata Communities. She enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling and was an avid reader. She was a caretaker for Bunce, Elmer and Shirley cemeteries for many years and enjoyed taking care of her animals.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Bunce Cemetery, LaPlata Public Library or LaPlata Nursing Home and may be sent or left at Elliott Funeral Home, P.O. Box 392, Atlanta, MO 63530.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow the services at the Bunce Cemetery, west of Elmer.
