John L. "Duke" Wallace

(April 7, 1943 - September 7, 2016)

John L. “Duke” Wallace, 73, of Bevier, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at his home.

John was born on April 7, 1943, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Joseph and Ruby (Miller) Wallace. John served in the US Navy on the USS Destroyer Douglas H. Fox and was involved in the “Bay of Pigs Invasion” during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was united in marriage to Dianne Adams on March 13, 1965, in Bevier. John was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus #3769. He was a brick mason for many years and retired from ConAgra. John enjoyed helping people, and was involved with “Meals on Wheels”, “Food for Kids”, the American Red Cross, Emergency Management Start-up in Macon County, and as a local ombudsman.

John is survived by his wife, Dianne of Bevier; one son, Johnny Wallace and his girlfriend Shelly Moncrief of Macon; three great-grandchildren, Ryley and Roman Teter, children of Kaylie Teter and her husband Derek, and Eden Faith Reade, daughter of Paula and Jake Reade, one brother, Joseph Wallace and his wife Lois of Georgetown, TX, and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, September 12, 2016, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon, with Father Ben Nwosu officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Bevier. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm, Sunday evening, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with a prayer service and Rosary at 3:30 pm. The family suggests memorials to the Randy Johnson Memorial Fund.
