James Edward Dixson

James Edward Dixson, age 77, of Hannibal, MO, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. James was born May 9, 1939 in Southwick, Idaho, the son of Corry Elmer Dixson and Beulah Ella Chester. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Schwieter on June 26, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Shelbina, MO. She survives.

James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbina, MO and later attended the Immanuel Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO. After owning and operating a Mobil service station in Shelbina for approximately 15 years, he went to work as a Ford parts salesman for Tom Boland Ford in Hannibal, MO for 30 years. He served as the Fire Chief for Shelbina and was an active member to the Shelbina Jaycees, a lifelong NRA member, a Scout Master in Shelbina, and an active gun show dealer for over 40 years. James loved to share his love for firearms and shooting sports. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a supreme jokester. He always enjoyed visiting with family and friends and had a special love for his grandchildren, great-grandson, and his dachshund dogs.

James is survived by his three children, Debbie Leavengood and husband Dave of Hannibal, MO, Cindy Neisen and husband Gene of Philadelphia, MO, and Jim Dixson and wife Leigh Anne of Kearney, MO; seven grandchildren, Michael Frier, Whitney Frier-Lindsey, Stephanie Frier, Jacob Dixson, Grace Dixson, Isabella Dixson, and Sammy Dixson; and one great-grandchild, Tyson Richards; one sister, Ruth Cook of Beaverton, Oregon, and Elmer Dixson and wife Ruth Ann of Shelbina, MO.

He was preceded in death by his one brother, Bill Dixson; and one sister, Alta Jane Rosenboom.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Visitation services are Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Burial services will be at the Shelbina Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors and the Northeast Missouri Humane Shelter.
