Virginia Grace Gibson, 91, of Clarence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Clarence Care Center.

She was born on February 9, 1928 in rural Knox City, Missouri to Melvin Bishop and Cleta Roene Spangler Huse. Virginia, the oldest of six children, grew up on a farm west of Newark, Missouri. She attended Campbell Grade School and Edina High School. In 1949, she obtained her Registered Nursing Degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Quincy, Illinois.

On October 16, 1949, she married Noble Dean Gibson in Shelbina, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1998. Dean and Virginia lived on a farm north of Bethel, Missouri where they raised Nolan, Raena and Whitney. She remained there until moving to Clarence, Missouri in 2011.

Virginia worked in various nursing facilities throughout her career and retired in 2005 from Twin Pines Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri. Virginia and five other directors founded the Salt River Community Care Center in 1973 at Shelbina, Missouri. She was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Church, Eastern Star and active in the Bethel Colony Foundation.

Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Deana Lynne Gibson on March 28, 1955; a son, Nathan Dmitri Gibson on April 8, 1960; a sister, Alma Dee Huse; and two brothers, Melvin Dean Huse and Merlin Gene Huse.

Virginia is survived by her three children, Nolan (Sherri Lay) of Lewistown, MO, Raena (Brent) Foreman of Anabel, Missouri and Whitney (Joan) Gibson of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jarrell (Jolie) Foreman, Ammanda (John) Dixon, Andrew (Charysse) Gibson, Erica (Patrick) Parker, Katelyn Gibson and Sam Gibson; seven great-grandchildren, Kaylin Bales, Jace and Emersyn Foreman, Phoebe and Ruby Dixon and Conner and Mia Parker; a sister, Wilma Huse of Leland, North Carolina and Marvin (Lucille) Huse of Victoria, Texas.

Visitation is Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Following visitation, a graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery north of Bethel, Missouri.
