Jean Elliott, age 89 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, Missouri.

Born July 5, 1929 in rural Adair County, the daughter of Virgil and Madie (Berry) Waddill. On May 27, 1950 in La Plata, she was united in marriage to James Elliott who preceded her in death on February 10, 2011.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Norva and George Bailey.

Surviving are one sister, Donna Kelly of La Plata; one nephew, Kirby Bailey and Debbie Newland of Kirksville, Missouri; two great nieces, Brittany Huffman and Jeremy Bragg of Novinger, Missouri, and Bridgette and Tom Hays, Jr. of Kirksville, Missouri; one great nephew, Kolby and Kera Bailey of La Plata, Missouri; and several great great nieces and nephews.

Jean attended Hays Rural School, Kirksville High School, and was a 1947 graduate of La Plata High School. In 1961 she moved to La Plata where she worked as bookkeeper at Wheatcraft Motor Company. In 1967 she started working at Truman State University. At the time of her retirement in 1990, she was the executive secretary to the university president.

Jean was a member of the Truman State Bridge Club, Atalpal II, La Plata American Legion Auxiliary, El Kadir Jewels, Women of the Moose, and La Plata Christian Church. She enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing Bridge, dancing, and going to the Shrine Club with Jim.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 21, 2019 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
