December 10, 2018

Robert H “Bob” Gruenloh, 77, of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his home. Mr. Gruenloh was born November 4, 1941 at the family farm in Florissant, Missouri to Joseph Anthony Gruenloh and Ethel Marie Ebbesmeyer Gruenloh. He married Janet I. Riley on January 4, 1964.

Bob was a lifelong farmer which necessitated his moving the family from Florissant to Jacksonville in 1971. He used hard work, dedication and ingenuity to maintain his farm while working numerous properties for others for many years. His family was his greatest point of pride. He and his late wife Janet were married for 47 years, during the last years of her life his deep love and dedication to her was clear through the care provided during her health challenges. He strived to demonstrate through action for his seven children how to be a hard-working, fun loving family. His twenty-one grandchildren brought him endless joy. From feeding them his home cooking or the treat of the day to anxiously awaiting many of their arrival on the bus after school to serving as god father for Bobby and William, his deep devotion to each of them was clear. Meeting his twin great grandsons was a crowning moment in his love for the children of his family.

Bob had a competitive spirit and exhibited it in many ways. He loved softball, horseshoes, and bowling. If he was going to take on anything, he wanted to do it well. His home cooking was a talent he kept developing with each baked ham and pot of chili becoming the new best ever.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law John Hoesli and a nephew Kevin Hoesli.

He is survived by children; Regina Moore, Cairo, Rhonda and Kevin Gibler, Centralia, Robert and Darla Gruenloh, Jacksonville, Renee and Aaron Hale, Cairo, Rebecca and James Gibson, Higbee, Joseph and Lisa Gruenloh, O’Fallon, and Ruby and Jeff Sander, Cairo; Sisters Ethel Hoesli, Florissant, Marilyn Gruenloh, Florissant, Patricia and Roger Korando, Florissant, Leann and Carl Scibetta, St. Charles and Brothers Joseph and Dolores Gruenloh, Florissant and George and Sylvia Gruenloh, Cairo.
