William Andrew Bullock, age 93 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born June 9, 1925 in La Plata, Missouri, the first of four children of Edgar and Pearl (Roan) Bullock. On June 6, 1954 he was united in marriage to Ann Hertzler. Bill said the minute he met her, his life changed forever, and he knew his bachelor days were over. They were devoted to each other throughout their long marriage. Two children were born to their marriage, Larry and Jill.

Survivors include his wife Ann of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Mick Kent of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Debby Bullock of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister, Janet (Bullock) Snyder of Naples, Florida; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Hertzler Kahn and her husband Chuck of High Point, North Carolina; five granddaughters, Morgan Molden and husband Brett, Mallory Halverson and husband Brad, Allison Uhll and husband Joe, and Abigail and Grace Bullock; five great grandchildren, Tabitha, Finley, Cecelia, Kent, and Weston; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Larry Bullock, one sister, Mary Lu Slaughter, one brother, Jimmy Bullock, and two nieces, Kathy Bullock and Sally Price.

Bill was a 1943 graduate of La Plata High School. He then joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a sergeant 33 months later.

He worked in many capacities for Standard Oil, which later became Amoco, then British Petroleum most all of his life, retiring at the age of 83. Through the years he traveled extensively as he managed pipeline projects across the country. His last project was close to home, as he worked on an oil spill near Ethel, Missouri.

Bill loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, walk in the woods, watch wildlife, ride horses, and run dogs. For many years he judged field trials across the Midwest, and made many lifelong friends along the way. The day before he died he saw a deer from the window of his room, and noted it was a very lucky deer, as he wouldn’t be shooting one this year. Bill loved to golf, and was proud to have mentored young golfers. He was very generous with golfing advice throughout his life, and gave his last putting lesson in August.

Bill was a lifelong member of the La Plata Community Presbyterian. He appreciated and enjoyed the La Plata Golf Course for many years as well as Bulldog Athletics.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata, Missouri with the family receiving friends starting at 10:00 a.m. The service will be followed by a community lunch in the church basement. All are welcome.
