George Sportsman, age 84, of Brookfield, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at McLarney Manor in Brookfield.

Funeral service will be Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Pastor Tom Sullenger officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Brookfield. The family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

George Junior, son of Lawrence and Jessie (Thomas) Sportsman, was born January 3, 1934, in

Rothville. On November 23, 1957, he married Frances Stevens who preceded him in death on February 15, 2018.

George was a 1951 graduate of Rothville High School. Following graduation, he enlisted into the US Army where he was stationed in Germany and served during the Korean Conflict.

George worked 30 years for Colonial Bread Company, retiring as a route supervisor. He was a 55-year member of the Brookfield Elk’s Lodge and a 40-year member of the Brookfield Eagles Lodge. George enjoyed golfing, playing pool and card games. Most of all he loved being around his grandchildren, who always put a smile on his face.

Survivors include three children, Kim Moore, Lonnie Sportsman and wife, Kim and Jan Maxwell and husband, Jim all of Brookfield; 11 grandchildren, Chris Moore and wife, Tiffany, Luke Moore, Kellie O’Brien and husband, Ricky, Amy Moore, Rachel Hessemyer and husband, Ian, Megan Parn and husband, Brad, Tyler Gordon and wife, Emily, Spencer Gordon, Kalie Gordon, Josh Maxwell and wife, Jordan, and Jarret Maxwell and fiancée, Bailey; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Orpha (Sis) Hazlett of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shirley Solomon and husband, Gene of Bucklin; one brother, Tommy Sportsman and wife, Cindy of Marceline; one sister-in-law Sylvia Sportsman; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

His parents; two brothers, William Sportsman and Jerry Sportsman; and one brother-in-law, Dale Hazelett also preceded him in death.
