Bennet West September 29, 1930 - September 17, 2018

Bennet West, Jr., 87 a resident of the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri, formerly of Lancaster, Missouri, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born on September 29, 1930 in Putnam County, Missouri, he was the son of Bennet Dowel and Juanita (Husted) West. On July 20, 1952 at the bride’s parents’ home in rural Schuyler County, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Speer and to this union three children were born, James Douglas (Jim), John David and Kathleen Ann (Kathy).

Bennet is survived by his children, John West and wife, Judy of Lancaster, Missouri and Kathy Miller and husband, Ron of Oskaloosa, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Annette West of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren, Angela Carolan and Jennifer Hartman of Earlham, Iowa, Martha Bertsch and husband, Cory of St. Joseph, Michigan, Chris West and Kristina Miller of Lancaster, Missouri, Kimberly Boyd and husband, Kevin of Farmington, Minnesota, Kirk West and wife, Alisha of Lancaster, Missouri, Cale Brimer and wife, Lacy of Downing, Missouri and Amanda Brimer and Anthony Lutz of Glenwood, Missouri; great grandchildren, Sara and Christian Carolan, Jameson and Arabella Bertsch, Chelsea and Marcus Miller, Mikel and Chase West, Peyton, Owen and Quinn Boyd, Jaxson West, Kinley Walter, Calain and Bentlee Brimer, Alex, Eliese and Anna Steel; three step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; one sister, Pat Primm and husband, Gerald of St. Louis; nieces and nephews and other family members.

Bennet is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Louise West on August 20, 2018; one son, James Douglas (Jim) West and one sister, Evelyn Hartford.

Bennet built many commercial properties and homes in Schuyler County and surrounding areas from approximately 1964 until his health failed. Bennet and Betty had been married for 66 years and they were still in love until the end.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith assisted by Billy Wallace, Pastor of the Lancaster Christian Church officiating. Music will be provided by Twila Anderson, pianist and Susan Welsh, soloist with a special selection of “In The Garden”. CD selections of “If You Get There Before I Do” and “When I Get Where I’m Going” will also be performed. Pallbearers will be Chris West, Kirk West, Cale Brimer, Angela Carolan, Martha Bertsch, Kimberly Boyd and Amanda Brimer. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Boyd, Cory Bertsch, Anthony Lutz, Lacy Brimer, Kristina Miller, Jennifer Hartman and Alisha West. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri.
