Ruth Shaffer-Altiser, 95, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away at the Excelsior Springs Hospital Convalescence Center in Excelsior Springs, MO, on Monday, September 3, 2018.

Vera Ruth (Fry) Shaffer-Altiser was born in Lucerne, MO, on June 2, 1923, the daughter of John Edgar and Dolly Ann (Duncan) Fry, who preceded her in death. She married William Earl Shaffer on July 30, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1970. Ruth and Earl lived in Lemons, MO, until 1963, when they moved to Pleasant Hill, MO. She was a homemaker. Ruth moved back to Unionville upon Earl’s death and later worked in the dietary department at Putnam County Memorial Hospital. Ruth married Carl Altiser on October 3, 1974, and he preceded her in death in November of 1986. Ruth retired from the Hospital in 1996 after 18 years of service. She moved to San Antonio to be closer to her son and daughter and when her daughter moved to Kansas City Ruth went with her.

Ruth enjoyed quilting and crocheting and when she had the time, she loved to read. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO.

Ruth is survived by two children, James (Linda) Shaffer of Springfield, MO; and Linda (Bob) Wuckowitsch of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, as well as a daughter-in-law, Lynda Shaffer of San Antonio, TX.

Others who preceded Ruth in death are a son, John Shaffer; a grandchild, Paul Shaffer; a brother, Charles Fry; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Shaffer.

Memorial services for Ruth Shaffer-Altiser will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 8, 2018, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Ruth's wishes were to be cremated.
