Dorothy Juanita Montgomery January 22, 1930 - August 29, 2018

Dorothy Montgomery, 88, of Green City, MO, passed away at the Kirksville Manor Care in Kirksville, MO, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. She had been a resident there for about 2 ½ years.

Dorothy Juanita (Dye) Montgomery was born in Mystic, IA, on January 22, 1930, the daughter of Virgil and Edna (Hooten) Dye, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Mystic, IA, and graduated from Unionville (MO) High School in 1947. She married Donnie Watts, Sr., soon after and they made their home in Graysville, MO. Dorothy ran the scale house at the rock quarry in Graysville and also worked at McGraw-Edison in Centerville, IA, and Con-Agra in Milan, MO. Dorothy had a gift for caring for elderly; she cleaned houses and provided live-in care for a number of residents. She also worked at the Monroe Manor in Unionville. Donnie passed away on December 24, 1970, and Dorothy married Paul Montgomery on August 11, 1972 and he survives. Paul and Dorothy ran a café in Worthington, MO, and later moved to Green City.

Dorothy had a smiling and bubbly personality which made her a favorite among with the elderly folks she care for. She loved to attend household and estate auctions and she loved to mow lawns, taking special care that the lawn was mowed to her exacting standards. She also enjoyed to spending time with her loving family.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her children, Donnie (Mildred) Watts, of Milan, MO; Craig Lee Watts of Wichita, KS; and Georgann (Joe) Robbins of Queen City, MO; and her step-children, Tim (Valarie) Montgomery and Sandi (Richard) Davis of Unionville, MO, and Diana (Rob) Hollond of Purdin, MO. Dorothy is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren as well as two brothers, David (Vivian) Clark of St. Joseph, MO; and Jerry Clark of the state of Washington; and one sister, Carol (James) Kirkham of Graysville, MO.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband; a son, Dickie Watts; a daughter, Elizabeth Watts, who died in infancy; a sister, Delores Williams; and a great granddaughter, Whitney Watts, who died in infancy.

Graveside services for Dorothy Montgomery will be at 11:00 am at the Rose Cemetery south of Graysville, MO, on Saturday, September 1, 2018, with visitation at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home from 9:30 – 10:30 am the same day as the service. Interment will be at the Rose Cemetery.

Memorials for Dorothy are suggested to her husband, Paul Montgomery, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
