Alma Jean Porter

Alma Jean Porter, 82, of Moberly, died Friday, April 3, 2015, at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, MO. Alma Jean was born June 27, 1932 in Ripley County, MO, to Elza A. and Mildred L. (Bridges) Thom.

She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Rockford, IL, area for many years. Alma Jean was a member of the Logan Street Church of Christ. She married Wayne Porter on June 11, 1950, in Rockford, IL., and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three sons, Roger A. Porter and his wife Mary J. of Rockford, IL, Curtis H. Porter and his wife Sandra of Huntsville, MO, Russell W. Porter and his wife Giselle Nevin-Porter of Lafayette, CO; six grandchildren, Mildred Neffin, James Williams, Shelia Williams, Chrissandra Porter, Richard Ian Porter, Gabrielle Porter; six great-grandchildren, a brother Roger W. Thom of Janesville, WI; other relatives and friends.

Alma Jean loved to knit and sew, and she took great joy in making gifts for people.

Memorial contributions to the Logan Street Church of Christ or to the Moberly First Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at the visitation which will be Monday, April 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, services honoring and celebrating Alma Jeans life will follow at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
