Thomas James Tom Sommerfeldt

Thomas James Tom Sommerfeldt, 62, of Callao, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at his home.

Tom was born on February 11, 1953, in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Raymond and Mary Sommerfeldt. He was united in marriage to Connie Jo Lynn in Valley Park, MO on June 18, 1977. Tom served in the United States Army for twenty one years and retired as a First Sergeant. He then taught math and science in Callao and later in New Cambria before retiring in 2011. Tom enjoyed his culinary pursuits, gardening, fine beer and wine, and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his wife, Connie; four children, Corinna Knowles and husband Ryan of Columbia, MO, Christina Vrentas and husband Mark of Chester, AR, James Thomas Sommerfeldt of Columbia MO, and Catrina Sommerfeldt of Callao, MO; five grand-children, Sabrina, Landon, Karlie, Jayden and Mabel; three sisters Deb, Ann, and Jean; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Judy.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 3, 2015, at 11:00 am, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. Visitation will be Thursday evening, from 5-7 pm, at the funeral home. Private family graveside services, with full military honors, will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. Memorials can be made to the Callao American Legion Post or the Randy Johnson Memorial Fund.
