Iyola Hopper, age 89, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Clarence Care Center in Clarence, Missouri.

Iyola was born in Bakersfield, California on September 5, 1928, the daughter of Harvey Archidbald and Clara Hoagland Thomas. She was united in marriage to Waldo Carl Hopper on June 5, 1943, Los Angeles, California. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1995.

She is survived by three children, Robert Hopper and wife Bonnie of Clarence, Missouri, Linda Echternacht and husband John of Clarence, Missouri, and Thomas Hopper and wife Patti of Jonesburg, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; Kelley Box, Clint Thomas, Staci Cima, Jennifer Baird, Nathan Hopper, Lorie Blaise, Paul Echternacht, Troy Echternacht, Adam Hopper, Dustin Zehner, Chelsey Hopper, and Tyler Hopper; twenty-eight great grandchildren, Justin, Rylee, Christian, Ethan, Samatha, Nicole, Zachary, Skylar, Sydney, Sara, Flynn, Brittany, Brian, Rachel, Brandon, Jason, Abby, Anna, Tyler, Billie, Kinley, Kassidy, Alana, Peyton, Trinity, Colton, Ethen, and Reed; two great –great grandchildren, Collin and Carlie; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Thomas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sharon Thomas; grandson, Brent Hopper; one brother, Donald Thomas; and in-laws, Eben and Guy Hopper.

Iyola grew up in Bakersfield, California, where she married Waldo, while in the military. They moved back to the farm in Clarence, Missouri in 1945, where they raised four children. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clarence and the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron. She worked for Humphrey’s Drug store for many years and later purchased it. After the drug store collapsed, she remodeled the remaining part of the building and opened it as Out Back Coffee Shop. Her greatest joy was many years of serving coffee to her customers and providing a place for friends and neighbors to visit. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, traveling, dancing, cross stitching, and visiting with family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral in Clarence, Missouri, with a burial to follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 pm on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence. Memorials may be made to the Maplewood Cemetery or American Diabetes Association.
