Dennis Franklin Collins April 28, 1941 - July 19, 2018

Dennis Collins, 77, of Lucerne, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, July 19, 2018, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Dennis Franklin Collins was born in Centerville, IA, on April 28, 1941, the son of Robert Earnest “Ernie” and Roselea Maxine (Walters) Collins, who preceded him in death. He was reared in the Midway area of western Putnam County and attended Central City rural school. Dennis graduated from Unionville High School in 1959. He attended business school briefly. He married Terry Andgregg in 1961 and they divorced in 1976. Dennis later married Jo Ann O’Dell on July 20, 1984, and she preceded him in death on December 20, 2008.

Dennis worked for 38 years in warehouse maintenance for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO, retiring as a supervisor in 1997. He and Jo Ann moved back to his home place in rural Lucerne in 1997 and they built a new house in 2006. Dennis enjoyed attending auctions and he liked to collect all kinds of different items. Passersby on US 136 will recall his collection of VW bugs. He liked to attend tractor pulls and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dennis enjoyed fishing and hunting deer, especially with grandchildren. He was a member of West Liberty Baptist Church and also attended Broadlawn Baptist Church.

Dennis is survived by two sons, Tom (Robin) Collins of Independence, MO, and Dale (Annthea) Collins of Nevada City, CA. His three grandchildren are Jacquelynn, Ean, and Josh. Dennis is also survived by several cousins.

Funeral services for Dennis Collins will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 21, 2018, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the West Liberty Cemetery west of Unionville.
