Viola Marcella Kraettli, 100, peacefully passed away on July 13, 2018 at Loch Haven Senior Living Community in Macon, Missouri.

Viola was born on July 19, 1917 on the family farm on Massas Creek in Warren County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Fred Haeberle and Emma Kirchofer Haeberle. Viola attended school in a one room school house and lived on the family farm until her marriage to Lesley Arthur Kraettli on June 21, 1943. Following her marriage, she moved to St. Louis when Lesley was discharged from the Air Force following World War II. She and Lesley lived in St. Louis until 1980 when they moved to Warrenton, Missouri. Following Lesley’s death, she moved to Macon, Missouri where she happily resided until her death. Viola worked in retail sales and later for the Normandy School District in St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Freddie Haeberle and Rubin Haeberle. Survivors include her two daughters: Arlene Theerman and her husband, Larry, Macon, Missouri and Linda Thomas and her husband, Galen Thomas, Springfield, Missouri, five grandchildren, Kenneth Theerman and his wife, Lauren, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kathryn Whisenand and her husband, Charlie, Macon Missouri; Jacob Thomas and his wife, Giselle Kohler, Springfield, Missouri; Theodore Thomas and his wife, Molly Keegan, St. Louis, Missouri and Benjamin Thomas, Springfield, Missouri. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Kolt Theerman, Eli Whisenand, John “Jack” Thomas, Peter Thomas and Isabel Thomas. Survivors also include her sister, Bernice Schroer, New Florence, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Melva Haeberle, Hermann, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

Viola was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed her many friends and was always ready to go bowling and to the casino. Viola was known for her skill in the kitchen, especially her pies. She also enjoyed quilting, playing cards and dominoes with her friends at Loch Haven, following the stock market and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. She was always kind to others and lived her life with dignity, integrity and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will take place on Sunday, July 15, 2018 beginning at 12:30 at the Greening Eagan Hayes Funeral Home 401 North Rollins Macon, Missouri with a memorial service to begin at 1:30 p.m. A private graveside burial service will take place at a later date in St. Charles, Missouri. The family wishes to thank the staff at Loch Haven Senior Living Community for their devotion and many actions of kindness.
