Betty Lou (Atchley) Kinney (Dec 19, 1937 - Jul 13, 2018)

July 19, 2018

Betty Lou (Atchley) Kinney was born in the Pure Air community of Adair County Missouri on December 19, 1937 and passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at Northeast Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Betty was the only daughter of Sam and Cena (Vice) Atchley. She had two older brothers, Don and Delbert. She attended the Golden Rule School until high school when she attended and graduated from Novinger High School. Betty was employed for a brief time at McGraw Edison where she met her husband and life long love Lloyd. She and Lloyd were married Christmas Eve 1956 in Greentop, Missouri. Together Lloyd and Betty had three sons, Frankie Lee, Danny Eugene and David Earl. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Cena Atchley, a brother Don Atchley and her son, Danny Kinney.

Betty is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Lloyd of Kirksville, two sons, Frank and his wife Shani of Trenton, Missouri and David and his wife Melissa of Kirksville. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Katie Kinney of Trenton, Missouri, Kenton Kinney of Parkville, Missouri, Kade Kinney of Kirksville, Missouri, Haylee Kinney of Kirksville, Missouri and Callyn Kinney of Kirksville, Missouri. Additional survivors are a brother Delbert Atchley and his wife, Debbie of Novinger, Missouri and sisters in law Doris Atchley of Novinger, Missouri and Betty Lou Hawkins of Chillicothe, Missouri. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty was a caregiver her entire life. She took loving care of her children and then when she had raised them, she took on the role of caregiver to many others in need whether it be her aging parents, aunts and uncles who were in need or probably her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren. She and Lloyd were incredibly proud of each of their grandchildren’s accomplishments and spent a great deal of time showing that through always being there and helping out with whatever needed done. Grandma Betty’s famous sugar cookies have brought smiles to numerous school children in every school at which her daughters in law taught and her grandkids attended. Her beautiful crochet work lovingly wrapped her newborn grandchildren and many other special infants up as they came into this world.

Unfortunately Alzheimer’s had taken many of Betty’s memories in the last few years, but her family holds those memories dear as they remember her special life.

.That life will be celebrated on July 16, 2018 at the Travis Noe Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel and a funeral service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be at Maples Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.
