Merlyn Sue Amidei, 72, of Macon, MO, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018, at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon.

Merlyn was born on November 11, 1945, in Macon County, MO, the daughter of William Merle and Alice Margaret (Vaughn) Jones. She was united in marriage to Joseph Richard Amidei on June 27, 1987 in Macon. Merlyn taught many years for the South Shelby High School, Macon Middle School, and the Immaculate Conception School. She was a member of the Macon County Historical Society, Lydian Club, Anti-Rust, Macon County Retired Teachers, and Boy Scouts of America. Merlyn was an author of two history books the “The Couch Potato’s Guide to Macon City and Hudson” volumes: 1 and 2, and numerous Macon County historical articles for the newspaper. She had received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award, the Wood Badge Award, and the Missouri 4-H Key Award. She was proud to have climbed the Tooth of Time Mountain at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Merlyn loved to do historical research, historical portrayals, and enjoyed reading.

Merlyn is survived by her husband, Joe of the home; two children, Bill Noyes and his wife Kris of Macon, MO, and Bob Noyes and his wife Sandra of Cypress, TX; five grandchildren, Travis Noyes and his fiancé Jessyka Batye of Marceline, MO, Kevin Noyes and Kayla Noyes, both of Macon, MO, Brandon Noyes and Drew Noyes, both of Cypress, TX; great-grandchildren, Damon’Te, Paisley, and Paxton of Marceline, MO; sister, Linda Schroeter of St. Charles, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Dick Jones.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 6 pm at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO, with Rev. Scott Dalrymple officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon from 4 pm until the time of the service. Burial will be in the St Charles Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Macon County Historical Society.
