Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) Walter T. Davis Jr., 83, of Macon, MO, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, at his residence at the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon.

Walter was born on April 25, 1935, in Macon, the son of Walter Thomas Davis and Margerite Simpson. He was a career serviceman who served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Walter was united in marriage to Shirley J. (Grant) Davis on July 15, 1962, in Macon. They enjoyed a devoted marriage.

Walter was industrious, working to a high standard and winning commendations for his service in the Armed Forces. He was a technical expert in the field of Automotive Maintenance, thus did inspections, and trained others. He was successful while also holding one or more additional jobs, throughout his military career. He personified the lifelong learner, taking many additional courses toward his various goals throughout his life. He valued education as a pathway to fulfillment, supporting the endeavors of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading technical journals, figuring mathematical computations, and spending time with his family.

Walter is survived by his five children, James A. Davis Sr. of Los Angeles, CA, Laura A. Davis-Vick and her husband David of Salem, OR, Jeffrey W. Davis of Salem, OR, Neill L. Davis of Wilsonville, OR, and Lenora S. Davis and her wife Celeste Long of Salem, OR; four grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 11, 2018, with full military honors, at the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO, with Rev. James Tolson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
